1990 General Election —— Tengku Razaleigh Exits with the Other Half of the Old UMNO
Forty-three votes split UMNO into two. Tengku Razaleigh and his Semangat 46 bridged PAS and DAP simultaneously, while PBS pulled out of BN just before polling; yet, this closest attempt at an alternative government only managed to break through in a few places.
